Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) – The state is looking to close 8 DMV locations to save money in the budget.
“I don’t know what I would do or when I would go,” said Michelle Fazio of New Britain.
There is surprise and frustration that the state is talking about closing the New Britain DMV office. For most of these folks, the next nearest office would be in Wethersfield, and getting there would be inconvenient, to say the least.
“Absolutely. I live in Southington,” said Ed Sauer.
“So going to Wethersfield for you would be a real hassle?”
“Hassle? That’s mild. Motor Vehicles is a hassle to go to anyway. But to go even farther,” he responded.
“I’m very unhappy about it. It’s very difficult for me because of the hours the DMV is open, to get to Wethersfield. This is very convenient,” Fazio said.
“I don’t think they should close it. I don’t think they should lay off any state workers. It’s busy enough as it is, and it’s an inconvenience for people to have to go to Wethersfield,” said John Patz of Newington.
And it’s not just New Britain. The state plan would close the large, full service offices in Danbury, Enfield, Old Saybrook, Putnam and New Britain. It would also shut down the smaller photo license renewal offices in Middletown, Derby and Milford.
