There’s a bill working its way through the capitol to extend workers’ compensation coverage to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.  This is sure to increase costs and make CT an even less competitive state to do business in.

Non-physical injuries/illnesses are not currently covered under workers’ compensation.  They are too easy to fake, subject to fraud and exploited by too many.  Just the other day we were reviewing an auto accident in which $25,000 was paid to an individual claiming injury – our customer was furious, stating the pedestrian walked into his car while it was stopped!

Certainly, legitimate expenses should be paid.  This bill stems from a Sandy Hook first responder  that hasn’t been able to work since and is pushing to get workers’ compensation benefits.  We don’t doubt him and wish him well.  (Where did all that money donated to Sandy Hook causes go?)  But if this bill passes we’ll see people collect workers’ compensation benefits far too often for far weaker reasons or outright fraudulent causes at the expense of everyone else.
