Insurance, Dog Breeds, and Connecticut

CT Legislature is in session.  A bill regarding insuring dogs and restricting underwriting by breed has made through the House and is in/through the Senate.  Currently insurers are allowed to decline to insure based on a dogs breed.

If it passes insurers will have to consider all dogs and not be able to restrict breeds, which encourages more ownership of more dangerous breeds, resulting in more bites and more claims, more lawsuits, pushing your insurance premiums up even for non-dog owners, and dog owners not as responsible for the actions of their dog as the financial burden is shifted to their insurers.  Insurers are already leaving the homeowners market and/or drastically increasing pricing.  This will only push premiums higher, cancel existing policies altogether, not write new policies and incentivize even more insurers to leave the state.

That pretty much sums up our attitude about it from an insurance perspective.
