With the “government shutdown” at the federal level now over the NFIP is back open for business. We issued multiple NFIP policies in the first day it was back open. An overwhelming majority of flood insurance policies are written with the NFIP, although the private market can be competitive and is slowing gaining market share. One of the more disappointing things in the reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program is that it’s only authorized until January 31st of 2026 so we may be doing this whole song and dance again in just a few months.
